Tough Choices and Lemmings

pool area @ The Chedi(Chaing Mai)
Koh Samui or Chedi@ Chiang Mai?
As the story goes, went to the travel agent the other day with the very innocuous thought of picking up my Bali air tickets but as luck would have it... chanced upon a package deal for The Chedi, Chiang Mai.
We had many happy happy fond memories @ The Chedi Club @ Tanah Gajah (Ubud) and have always wanted to check out this newest addition to the pack . Now, I am torn between the beach or the mountains!

Time for a break?

I think I need another break...
The Doctor seems to think its due to stress that my immunity isn't working so well thus making me susceptible to germs/bacterias and viruses. I was so sick last week and just when I thought I was well, my sore throat returned with a vengeance along with a nasty cough.
Since the year started, I feel that I am running on a treadmill programmed to move faster faster and faster and should I should slow down I think I will crash and burn.

The biggest irony being--IF i really take a break now I will end up being more stressed!!

마지막 춤은 나와 함께

(courtesy of yesasia.com)

I just finished watching the final episode of Save the Last Dance and I must say that I am sad to see it end.
Characters:
The lovely Eun Soo, the girl next door with a heart so true,
The pretty Soo Jin, brought up as a Princess and expecting to marry her Prince Hyun Woo,
Hyun Woo--who wants to be an artist but must take over the family business empire. Even dark Tae Min has a side of him that is good, making him a more complex person than a cowboy with a black Stetson.

The story, like a roller coaster ride, was predictable from its memory loss beginning to the all embracing end, yet contained enough twists and turns that it makes you want to line up and ride again. It's love, the feelings that are pulled out of us as we watch Eun Soo and Chang Ho/Hyun Woo draw close and then be ripped apart and the desire to see them enjoined once more. It's the pain we feel for Soo Jin as she fights to grab hold of Hyun Woo only to watch him slip through her fingers like running water, most of us havng at one time or another loved someone who doesn't return that love. Perhaps this is what makes this drama so appealing, the pleasure of being made young again through these intrepid lovers.

The music is simply wonderful, after watching a few shows, the tunes bringing back the feelings with each song, the different scenes play on a mental movie screen with each note played.

Room for Dessert?

Do you like Carrot Cake?

Another one of my fave cakes... Moist & bursting with flavours-- packed with crunchy walnuts, juicy raisins, and comes topped with a delectable velvety white-choc cream cheese frosting. I get my fix from a tiny little bakery @ Waterloo Street... S$2.60 /slice or $S18/S$30 per cake. Comes in 2 sizes, 500g or 1kg or more...

Soup Spoon

Been feeling under the weather the past 2 days and developed a sudden craving for soup(s).
Boston Clam Chowder, Tokyo Chicken Stew,Velvety Mushroom Stroganoff, Tangy Tomato with Basil etc... Decided to frequent the usual soup restaurant I usually patronise..Only to find it closed. Apparently, there was a dispute @ one of their outlets (Raffles City) on Sat resulting in the death of a restaurant manager. If the murder was done in a fit of anger, that is such a waste of a life. An irreversible action and a life broken forever.

Urban Spaces

Picturesque Amsterdam (courtesy of city photo)
I find the city a fascinating place--Amsterdam, Barcelona, Chicago, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Los Angeles, London, San Francisco, Shanghai, Paris, and Taipei
True to say the urban space has its filth and unsavory characters but
there is just so many things to see, so many things to do and so many experiences.
A complex living organism-- Each resonating its' own pulse and drumming to its' own drumbeat.
I can't really say which city is my favourite city but quixotic Amsterdam ranks highly on the list for its pretty canals, waterways and quaint houses.

(swimming pool--hydro)

Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur
Back from KL... the last 3 days there were spent intensively... Here are some pictures of Hotel Maya. Its a relatively new boutique hotel housed in a refurbished building... I say they did a good job as the hotel is stylishly chic-- common public places to private spaces. It is located directly opposite Zouk and within walking distance to KLCC.
P/S: I think I must have caught a bug as I feel sick!

LIMITED EDITION: Cheery Blossom Shower & Bath Gel/ Shimmering Lotion/Perfumed Body Powder
Another set of pretty & pink items from L'oocitane inspired by the delicate flowers and poetic beauty of the Cherry Tree. In Japan, the flowering of the Cherry Blossom(Sakura) heralds the arrival of Spring. It has been celebrated for many centuries and takes a very prominent position in Japanese culture as cherry blossoms are an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. Hence, it is not surprising that this special range of toiletries was launched first in Japan and several items are already out-of-stock.

I can't wait to get my hands on some of these items...
Perfumed Body Powder 20g
Feminine and sensual beauty powder for satin-smooth luminous skin and the lingering scent of cherry blossoms.
Shimmering Lotion 250ml
Enriched with Shea Butter, this lightweight lotion moisturizes and softens the skin, leaving an iridescent veil and the soft scent of cherry blossoms.
Available @
L'Occitane Roadshow

Paris, Je'Taime

Paris, Je'Taime
Cinematic tales about the romantic City of Lights...
Some are light-hearted, some dark, some sad, some nostalgic, some bizarre, some sordid, some charming, some forgetable but nonetheless the script is all powerful and moving as the journey brings us to the realisation that love is not always sweet, and the stories deftly examine non-romantic love, and even loss and longing.
Eighteen international directors have composed a collective ode to the magical, innately lyrical place. I say, worth a watch on a lazy weekend afternoon.

鱼生

Yusheng or Raw Fish Salad is traditionally eaten on Ren-Ri, meaning Man’s Birthday, which falls on the seventh day of the first lunar month. Punning on the words ‘yu sheng’, which literally means raw fish, it auspiciously means abundance and growth and there is no better way then to embody these symbols of good luck other than by eating them! So, when indulging in this dish during Chinese New Year, remember to toss your yu sheng high – the higher you toss – the better luck! I have already done this 4 itmes in 2 weeks! =)

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE INGREDIENTS IN 鱼生
• Salmon will bring you good tidings in abundance year after year.
• Peanut oil and sesame oil will make all things happen according to your wishes.
• The ‘spices of life’ which includes pepper powder and five-spice powder will bring you good luck.
• Green lime will bring you the best of luck and best of prosperity.
• Carrot/White radish will see your fortunes rise with the wind and tide.
• Savoury Chinese crackers will make the ground you thread on be covered with yellow gold.

East meets West

Wasabi Bistro Oriental Hotel
I love Japanese Food and hence enjoyed my visit to this chic fusion Japanese Restaurant with its contemporary decor and stylish food. Here, classic japanese dishes are jazzed up with a nice blend of Californian influences. Incorporated in California nearly 25 years ago, this restaurant has since then established several branches in Asia.
Must trys include: Kumi No. 1 which though a tad pricey @ $15 a pop is heavenly.
Rainbow Rolls which is California maki but wrapped with different kinds of raw fish - salmon, swordfish or tuna is another signature dish and the Papaya Seafood Motoyaki. which is served in half a papaya. What else can I say.. I love Jap Food!
