Yusheng or Raw Fish Salad is traditionally eaten on Ren-Ri, meaning Man’s Birthday, which falls on the seventh day of the first lunar month. Punning on the words ‘yu sheng’, which literally means raw fish, it auspiciously means abundance and growth and there is no better way then to embody these symbols of good luck other than by eating them! So, when indulging in this dish during Chinese New Year, remember to toss your yu sheng high – the higher you toss – the better luck! I have already done this 4 itmes in 2 weeks! =)
